Pompeo: (Q1) Transparency of Decision-Making

For decision making to be open to greater public input calls for providing ample public notice and specifically home notices to parents.

Pompeo: (Q2) Individualized Education for Above-Grade-Level Students

I do not believe that above grade performers need IEP’s. Competent teachers will plan classroom instruction to challenge gifted students. AP courses should be an option.

Pompeo: (Q3) School Choice with Uniform Quality in Elementary Schools

To assure that the quality of education is uniform across all schools, the quality of faculty and administrators must be uniform.

Pompeo: (Q4) Overcoming Financial Constraints

Is it possible to lose 38 million dollars in local aid over a 6-year period and still provide everyone in our public schools with a high quality education? Medford is doing its best!

Pompeo: (Q5) Expansion of After-School Programs for All Students

As the School Committee’s representative to the Shore Education Collaborative I am involved with after school programs for all students.

Pompeo: (Q6) Arts Education: Funding, Staffing, Quality, Diversity

Art education in Medford, acknowledging budgetary limits, is sufficiently funded and staffed. Improving its quality and diversity would require additional staffing and funding.

Pompeo: (Q7) Fostering a Hate-Free, Supportive Environment

I would encourage and support programs that are provided in an environment that places emphasis on diversity.

Pompeo: (Q8) Leadership to Improve Quality of Education

That 1 in 5 Medford students attend a private institution is not evidence that Medford Schools are not good. The quality of education in Medford is good. I think it’s a matter of personal preference. State school rankings fail to reflect the diversity of school populations that impact rankings. Medford does as well if not better than most of its neighbors.

Pompeo: (Q9) Green Initiatives

Current recycling efforts should be expanded. Recruit faculty volunteers and the custodial staff to work with parent volunteers.

Pompeo: (Q10) Nutrition and Activity Against Obesity

As a member of the school committee I see leading the charge as a joint effort and I would encourage my colleagues to join me. To enable students to make good nutrition decisions and to engage in regular physical activity must be the mission of the Health and Physical Education programs.
