This is a long-standing problem that requires constant attention. Increase police patrols, encourage neighborhood participation and work within the schools to make young people realize that these facilities are for their benefit.
We are starting to see an increased push on recycling. School principals are active in getting students’ participation. More companies in the private sector are going green and the Medford Housing Authority is promoting recycling in its facilities. I am in full support of more such efforts.
I called for the independent audit and have urged a consumption billing system (use more, pay more - use less, pay less) which would ease the burden on homeowners including those on fixed incomes. This is my number one issue and I am pursuing it forcefully.
Tufts University is an asset to Medford. It provides a valued source of employment to many of our residents. The city should utilize the engineering school’s expertise, use more of the University athletic facilities and encourage students’ volunteer activities in the community.
Pushed and supported efforts to clean up the Mystic Lakes and the Mystic River. We are fortunate to have the citizens’ environmental groups who are doing a superb job enhancing these public assets. I would like to see more jogging, walking and bike paths.
