Maiocco: (Q1) Affordable Housing

I have fully supported the sale of surplus school buildings and their conversion to housing units, which mandate the including of affordable units. Constantly working with the Medford Housing Authority to locate eligible applicants and to find affordable housing for them. I will continue my efforts.

Maiocco: (Q2) Making Medford Safe for Pedestrians & Cyclists

Working cooperatively with the chief of police and the department of public works to improve safety conditions for pedestrians and motorists. Pushed for extending the bike path around the Mystic Lakes, connecting to Arlington for bikers, joggers and walkers. This is an ongoing effort and I will continue to pursue necessary changes.

Maiocco: (Q3) Encouraging Diversity in Medford City Government

Medford voters in the past have elected people of color to both the City Council and the School Committee and they have served with distinction. Any person who is registered to vote in Medford is free to seek those offices. I believe that the vast majority of local voters embrace the diversity that makes for a vibrant community. Personally, I always encourage new candidates to seek office.

Maiocco: (Q4) Candidate Action Plan for Green Line Extension

The Executive Office of Transportation has asked the mayor to appoint a local committee to explore the issue and I support that action. I have urged local hearings. Personally, I need more information and data as to the impact an extension would have on our neighborhoods, how much private property would be taken, the costs to taxpayers etc. As I await this data, I am keeping an open mind on such a transit line extension to parts of Medford.

Maiocco: (Q5) Priorities for Medford Square Revitalization

I believe the following are critical to Medford Square: Rebuilding of parking garage on Governors avenue, development of site behind City Hall for mixed use and a study of the traffic pattern connecting Main St., Riverside Ave., Clipper Ship Drive, Salem, Forest and and High Streets.

Maiocco: (Q6) South Medford

Voted for the sale and development of the Lincoln-Kennedy School complex. Recommended new traffic lights at Hancock & Main, Willis & Harvard. Kenway St. is set for resurfacing.

Will continue to work with the mayor and the involved city departments in pursuing more improvements.

Maiocco: (Q7) Investing in Medford's Historical Resources

I have supported the use of federal funds for historic preservation and will continue to do so. Before committing to long-term borrowing of money for such preservation, I would need specifics as to the financial impact on the taxpayers.

Maiocco: (Q8) Arts & Culture for Medford Revitalization

A component of the Lincoln-Kennedy development will include artists’ units. I have supported the Arts Council’s programs, voted funding for Chevalier Auditorium and believe an arts center should be located at Spring Step.

There should be an active promotion of arts and culture in any revitalization effort.

Maiocco: (Q9) Budget Transparency

I personally reviewed the $45 million school dept.budget and questioned the supt. Of school’s on certain aspects of it. All city budget hearings were open to the public. Receipts from the sale of the Lincoln-Kennedy complex will eventually resolve the deficit issue.

Maiocco: (Q10) GIC for Municipal Employees' Health Insurance?

Municipal and school employees union contracts mandate health insurance as a negotiated matter. The mayor negotiates. The state law requires that 70 percent of the unions must agree on joining the GIC.
