Chamberlain: (Q11) Analysis and Action Plan for Medford Parks

Although the practicality of constant surveillance of city parks by law enforcement is unrealistic increased patrols would help. More importantly the youth of Medford must have activities and recreation opportunities that discourage gang activity that may lead to public property damage in parks and playgrounds. Also Medford city departments responsible for safe and clean parks must improve maintenance and repair activities.

Chamberlain: (Q12) Improving Environmental & Recycling Practice

Recycling education can be adopted among schools to promote and challenge students to come up with recycling projects in schools. Also throughout the city properties and departments could begin recycling items of all kinds and to promote saving energy in all aspects of the city. The department of public works could reemphasize recycling hazardous material rather than residents simply putting them into the trash. Although fostering companies to adopt and expand their recycling programs a truly pure business that only uses recycles items may not be easy to find. But in the future it may not be.

Chamberlain: (Q13) Water Department Issues

As a challenger candidate I must say any investigation into a municipality is of great concern to myself, and the taxpayers of Medford. Any problems that arise concerning public funds and there management must be taken seriously. Other area cities have had investigations and audits that led to serious allegations and concerns regarding city departments.

Chamberlain: (Q14) Medford & Tufts

I believe that Medford must have an open and positive relationship with Tufts University. It is a well known and respected institution that calls Medford home for many years. I would promote a plan that would create a proposed unity plan for education that would bring the city of Medford and Tufts University together to plan the new Medford high school project. Bringing together the newest technology with the young people of Medford to create the premier educational facility with no need for extra tax dollars. I don’t believe it would happen fast however it is an idea that is worth pursuing.

Chamberlain: (Q15) Improving and Protecting Open Space in Medford

A primary challenge would be environmental. Many pressures are being put on the Mystic River Reservation. Station landing and the growth in the Wellington area of Medford have put tremendous pressures on sewer and utilities infrastructure in the area. I believe that the Medford square plan could be connected to the Mystic River Reservation by connecting the mystic river area of Medford square with the bike path of the Mystic River Reservation near the Mystic Valley Parkway, and running a bike lane up Governors Ave. north to the Middlesex Fells Reservation. This would give Medford a large natural bike way through the most beautiful areas of the nature of Medford. however Great care must be taken to preserve the conservation lands in our city and constant care to guard against over building and environmental pressures on these lands.
