Camuso: (Q11) Analysis and Action Plan for Medford Parks

We need to provide our youth with more to do in their non-school/work hours. We need to create youth councils to help us utilize peer pressure. We also need more law enforcement patrols for the parks. This is not just a Medford issue. It is true around the country.

Camuso: (Q12) Improving Environmental & Recycling Practice

Yes, we can do better. We need to coordinate our efforts and demonstrate the economic and environmental benefits to all concerned. There are many experts out there who should be contacted to bring new ideas regarding environmental improvement to us. Recycling is getting more prevalent and we should work with experts to gain the greatest advantage. The schools should be encouraged to accelerate their efforts to recycle products both as an educational and economic initiative.

Camuso: (Q13) Water Department Issues

I believe that we should implement a second meter system. I also believe that we should implement a tiered rate system so that large corporate users pay a higher rate than residents and small businesses. There is an audit underway of the financial condition of the water/sewer enterprise fund that will pinpoint the specific measures to be taken to remedy any deficit.

Camuso: (Q14) Medford & Tufts

Medford has a good relationship with Tufts University. The university has been very helpful to the city on many matters. Tufts and the schools partner on many projects. They have also contributed to several municipal initiatives. I will always stay vigilant to ensure that Tufts is respectful of it neighbors and that they are responsive to issues that emerge on campus which could adversely affect the community. Tufts has and can continue to be an important contributor to the historical, artistic, and cultural life of our community.

Camuso: (Q15) Improving and Protecting Open Space in Medford

I am a supporter of all our groups that seek to preserve and support our environment and public open space. I have worked with local and state agencies to ensure that these areas get needed attention. As usual, there needs to be greater state investment in open space. These areas provide Medford with unique qualities that cannot be ignored because they cannot be replaced. Medford is fortunate to have significant open space in a city environment. It is vital to preserve this reality for both the present and the future.
